What is a Galley?

Definition:

For our purposes, freelance writing, the definition may vary a bit from the traditional book publishing sense of the word. In magazines, a galley page is either the final page of how your article will look, including typeset, paragraph breaks, lede and headlines, or is a very close forerunner to the final page (perhaps without photos, for example).

In book publishing, you may find some variation on this word and definition, such as "galley proof" or "page proof", and some variation on its form, such as appearing in one large block for easy corrections, as opposed to an actual representation of the final printing.
