Be Sure To Take Notes!
Remember that friendly, helpful professor that would pretty much tell you to "write this down" because "it's going to be on the test"? His voice is in my head.
As I noted last week, I am on a vacation/business combo trip to NYC. While riding the subway in and out of Queens the last couple days, I've picked up some vibrant pieces of conversation and captivating interactions. I've been able to enter them into my Blackberry, but realize that not everyone suffers the same Crackberry addiction that I have. Here are some other ways you can capture writing ideas and snippets of dialogue:
- Journal
- Scrap paper (I don't know why, but for some reason my husband always has bank deposit envelopes in the car/his pockets/etc)
- Regular cell phone (memo feature)
- "Brain dump" at the end of the day
- Use of location cues/hints

I was reading over your article on “how to get started”. And although, I am not a ‘crackberry addict’, I do enjoy journaling
and the brain dump method of capturing good fodder for writing. It sounds like you are making the most out of the work aspect of the NYC trip. I hope you and the family have a good vacation.
We are now into the “vacation” aspect of the trip (as opposed to work) and doing well, other than the oppressive heat!
Journaling is necessary for writers!
