I Have a Confession

Sunday March 23, 2008

I was intrigued by the trailers for the movie The Other Bolelyn Girl. One of my English professors in college harped on the Tudors, and my curiosity was caught. So I read the entire novel this past weekend and liked it quite a lot. But my confession is that this is the first book I've read entirely through since Thanksgiving. And probably the first fiction novel I've read in a year.

I'm telling myself this moreso than you all: you've got to read. It does wonderful things for the writer in you. Necessary things. Important things.

You are so right. Time to grab one of the books I’ve bought but haven’t gotten around to reading. Thanks for the reminder Allena!

I haven’t read fiction in years. Most of the reading I do as a freelance writer has to do with what I write about which is generally non-fiction.

Hi Susan, Thanks for visiting. Have you given any thought to the idea that fiction novels may have a different repetoire of vocabulary/ideas/etc that could spark your nonfiction juices? I did not explain WHY I felt reading was essential because I could not put my finger oni t until today, but I really think this is what I’m getting at– just an expansion of your horizons a bit. I am drawn to reading NF– there’s so much I want to KNOW about–but like I said, I am so glad this movie piqued my interest. Best,!
