Writers Market 2008 Goes Into Full Promo Swing

Wednesday October 17, 2007

I noticed that the Writers Market 2008 edition has gone into full promo mode, most likely for the Christmas shopping season I assume, since it was released months ago, as far as I can tell. My local BN had a prominent display today and it's at #458 on Amazon at this writing.

Thumbing through it, I noticed it's touting some major new sections, such as newspaper leads and greeting card leads. Here's a quote from Amazon.com: "Includes five new sections (Newspapers, Syndicates, Screenwriting, Playwriting, Greeting Cards)." Not a bad expansion!

Every day there's something more available for us writers! In all seriousness, everyone, the jobs are out there! They really are. If you're just jumping into this freelance thing, and moreso, if you're looking for someplace to sell your article/expose/"I'm sorry your cat died" greeting card, picking up a copy of the Writers Market is a smart step. As for job lists, be sure to check out my list of 20 great job sites. Best of luck!

Another good resource, actually, is the photographer’s market. They’ve had greeting card companies in for a while as well as some other buyers. And most photography buyers also purchase writing. Just write in for guidelines.

I always wonder why they print them so early for the coming year. I’ve had the 2008 for almost three months. Makes me a little leary about editors’ names since they seem to be job-jumpers.
