Email Freelance Writer and Editor Allena Tapia

Like all the Guides at About.com, I'm a real person. I'm a freelance writer and editor, and I enjoy teaching others about the career.

I do my best to read all my email and I enjoy hearing from visitors to my site, but I can't always answer every message due to the sheer volume. Therefore:

If You Have Questions About Freelancing

I encourage you to first look around the site a little. I write about all aspects of the job, and often use others' questions to formulate new articles. Start with the Freelance Writing Blog on the front page.

If You Have Questions About Your Specific Career Path

You may want to post them in our freelance writing forum. I check the forum at least twice a week, but, in the mean time, your freelance buddies may have some suggestions, too.

To Contact Me Directly Via Email

Write me at freelancewrite.guide@about.com, and I'll try to get back to you ASAP!

F.A.Q.

Q. Where can I find freelance writing jobs?
A. This freelance writing job list is a good place to start looking.
Q. I'm a retired/laid off/unemployed/etc person who has a background in technology/parenting/agricluture--how should I start?
A. This is the perfect kind of question for our freelance writing forum.
Q. I'm a great writer- can I partner with you? OR Do you have any overflow work?
A. I am actually very careful in what assignments I accept, personally, and so I am not in need of any subcontractors at this time.
Q. What do you think of freelance bidsites?
A. Check out this article on freelance bid sites. I think that they are a good place to start if you don't have any clips or credits, but I'd like to see you move past them once you have your writer's portfolio built up.
Q. Can you review my product/website/book?
A. If your product has some value for freelance writers, or writers in general, I may be able to review it. Please email me.
Q. Should I write for free? Is a byline enough?
A. Ahh the perpetual question! We've discussed it at some length in the freelance writing blog.
Q. Help! What should I charge?
A. Freelance writing rates vary widely. We talk about setting your writing rates here.
