Hi readers: Am reprinting a press release from one of my favorite authors. I own both of her other books on writing and often recommend them to my students and consultees (which is not a word, btw). Her new book is due out soon, and I personally cannot wait!
Christina Katz launches her third book for Writer's Digest Books at The Northwest Author Series on Sunday, December 4, 2011. The presentation takes place at the Wilsonville Public Library in the Oak Room from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm and aims to inspire writers of any genre and any level of experience to take their writing careers to the next level. The title of the talk is, "The Writer's Workout: Whip Your Literary Ambitions Into Shape."
Her forthcoming book, The Writer's Workout, 366 Tips, Task & Techniques From Your Writing Career Coach, offers daily career-building prompts addressing challenges contemporary writers face in today's gig economy in an encouraging, no-nonsense tone.
The Writer's Workout is like having a personal trainer for your brain every day of the year. The book contains fresh, pro-active advice that helps writers coach themselves to produce an impressive body of published work, whether in print or online. In the age of information overload, writers need the ability to focus and feel satisfied at the keyboard on a daily basis. The Writer's Workout gives suggestions each day to help writers in any genre build a robust, unique writing career.
Says Katz, "Writers are living in a discouraging, distracted times, so The Writer's Workout, reminds all of us that success is an inside job and to concentrate our focus on what can be addressed and expanded and let go of what we cannot control."
Christina Katz is a journalist, writing coach, and speaker, and has accepted invitations to train writers at writing and publishing events around the country in 2012. Katz will be a keynote speaker at the Missouri Writer's Guild Conference in St. Louis Missouri in April as well as at The Mad Anthony Writer's Conference in Hamilton, Ohio. She will moderate panels on platform development for writers at the Associated Writers and Writing Programs in Chicago, The Writer's Digest Conference in New York, and will be featured at The Chuckanut Writer's Conference in Bellingham, Washington this June.
Katz has been working with adult writers since 2001. She began teaching continuing education at Whatcom Community College in Bellingham until 2004 and has taught e-mail classes independently to writers from around the country since moving to Wilsonville in 2004. Hundreds of her students have gotten published, dozens publish regularly and built lasting platforms, and a half dozen have landed book deals. Portland-area former students include Gigi Rosenberg and Cindy Hudson.
Katz first book in 2007 was Writer Mama, teaching mothers how launch a writing career while staying home with kids. Her second book in 2008, Get Known Before the Book Deal, was the first book to break down the steps of platform development for aspiring authors, a topic that has become extremely popular in the past few years.
In addition to writing three books in six years, Katz's parenting articles appear in regional parenting publications around the country. She also writes features for Writer's Digest magazine and a column for the Willamette Writers newsletter. Clips of her work can be found at http://ChristinaKatz.com. She has been a member of Willamette Writers since 2004.
On Tuesday, January 3rd, Katz will present, "New Year, Fit Career: Five Flabby Habits To Lose & Five Healthy Habits To Keep," for the Portland branch of Willamette Writers at 6:30 pm the Old Church in Portland.
