Well, what I thought was a run-of-the-mill press release had a hidden gem in it. Business Wire reported that Demand Studios will start offering its writers health insurance as of November 1. Really? Since health insurance for writers is a big deal here, I glommed on to this two sentence teaser, and tried to verify. Although Deb Ng's blog mentioned it today, Demand Studios' own site says nothing, so far. Veeery interesting. Stay tuned!

Hello!! Deb’s blog has details- costs, some coverages–etc- for interested writers.
It’s very true, and it was very hard to sit on this information too! At a time when many places are lowering rates, I’m happy to throw my support behind a company that’s looking to be a part of the solution.
I’m sure you’ll let other writers know how it goes, if you get it, if it’s worth it, did you have to switch? Etc. You know, the basics!
But, yes, even if it’s very just-the-basics insurance, I’m quite pleased with the effort.
Yes it is true. Just another reason why Demand Studios is a LEADER and the best content provider to freelance for.
Wow . . . that is news!
It’s a discount program…you don’t owe a copay, just the rest of the bill… Does DS get a cut like AARP does? Do you have to keep scrapping for their beneficient $15 stories to keep it?
This is NOT health insurance. Even the info from Beech Street admits that it is not health insurance. And, really, it’s crap.
Pay your writers a decent per article fee, Demand. THAT is what we need. Not some silly little bone to make us think you care about us.
I have to agree with the other naysayers and nay say, it’s not much for what you get. Then again, it’s hard to get anything as a freelancer. Too bad universal health care didn’t go through…grr.
