I Have No Goals

Monday December 29, 2008

Like my friends at Freelance Parent mentioned, the freelance writer blogsphere is aflame with writing goals and writing plans for 2009. Meanwhile, I'm sitting here swamped and anxious about meeting some deadlines so I can flit away on my New Years ski trip without the laptop, which, I think, is not likely to happen.

So, my goal for 2009 has just struck me: Better time management. Less procrastination. No more working on Sundays.

Ok, there's one thing off my to-do list. Back to work!

PS- Leave your goals in the comments!

How funny, Alena1 Just this morning I was Tweeting about needing to set some goals. Made a great plan with a coach to help me do just that later this week!

No procrastination, better time management, Sundays off? Sounds great to me! I was stuck at “Write more and make more money!”

Great goals! Mine are simple: To get my novel out to my list of agents until I either get slapped with a restraining order or somebody takes me on as a client, to submit some freelance work for possible publication, and to be MORE ORGANIZED. I think the last one will help with the first two.

Best of the best to you and have a wonderful 2009!

My goal for 2009 is the same as in previous years: Get assignments done well before deadline. You never know when you might have an extended power outage, illness or other family emergency, flood, fire or other home catastrophe. So far, it’s worked for me – I’ve never missed a deadline.

My number one goal for 2009 is to stay positive. No matter what, when the negative thoughts come, stop them and revert them back to a positive path.

You’re making a lot of money writing, I gues

I don’t really have a problem setting goals because I know I have a lot to get done inorder to break into freelance, but which should I start with, organizing clips, or looking for an agent? Very new at this!!

“joe”
I sure do make a steady income with my writing. And I worked my bum off for it.

I’ll probably never get to Paris, but if I did, I would likely, again, have to bring work with. It’s a part of my life that I am slowly accepting.

And I live in Michigan. A ski trip does not break the bank.

Gay Lee- You won’t need an agent unless you’ve got a fiction book in hand ready to sell. I would suggest getting some lcips together first.

(9) Elly Maier says:

My goals for 2009 are to finally get a lap top so I can work during the commute, this will happen when I get my tax return. Begin to replace my working income, and by the end of the year be able to quite my day job! If I don’t achieve all these goals, I’ll have something to work on for 2010!

I have a lot of goals for 2009: to increase my income month-by-month, organize my office, get some more variation in assignments and take a trip. (Also, what Penny said). Thanks Allena for the inspiration!

Time management tool that I like:

Its rather analog as a printable sheet to fill out and track projects and tasks but it works great!

(12) Shelley says:

Because my work duties have expanded but the time I have available to work has not, my goal for 2009 is a cliche – work smarter, not harder. I will delegate more, write more shorter, focused pieces and general “how to” articles instead of articles on specific software titles. I stopped working on Sundays last year and it’s been good for me.

I have designed a form to email in response to people wanting me to review their software – I can probably review it, but on my schedule and not according to their PR campaign. That seems like a no-brainer, but some PR reps call and send an obnoxious amount of email in an effort to get their product in the news.

Which reminds me: I will make it a policy to use the delete key in email more often. Obnoxiously tenacious developers and PR reps do not deserve the courtesy of a reply to every communication they send.

I agree with Robert Stanley’s comment – David Seah’s Printable CEO forms and blog is a fantastic resource.
