PitchFest- No Baseballs Required

Thursday December 11, 2008

One of the questions I get most often is "Which boards/groups/websites are the best to join?" For women (sorry guys) I always recommend Women on Writing and their paid membership, Premium Green. I've been a member of Premium Green for ... close to a year I think, and the benefits are solid. I get many of my freelance jobs from the monthly listing, I have made friends all over the country, and I learn about many different writing genres. This is easily one membership that has paid for itself many times over.

One recent benefit that Premium Gren offered was a "PitchFest" for its members, where we informally pitched article ideas for the Women on Writing ezine. We basically had the editor's ear, which was a real benefit. The WOW ezine is for women writers, about writing, so it's a great market for you if you like to write about writing.

This PitchFest led to a summary of the many ways freelance writers can pitch, other than through queries, and also gave me an opportunity to speak with Annette Fix, who gave us an editor's point of view on pitching.
