Some good choices, Allena! In fact, I have a few of these books sitting on my shelves :-) Maybe the writing elves (and you) are telling me that I should buckle down and read one. Of course, that doesn’t mean I won’t be asking Mr. Santa for my favorite pick. You can never have enough good writing books. Am I right?

A book that covers the psychology of writing as well as the craft is “Your Writing Coach” (published by Nicholas Brealey). It takes you all the way from idea through to publication. (In the interests of transparency I must admit I know the author…oh all right, I AM the author :-) )

Great choices. For writers who aren’t expecting a visit from Santa, be sure to check used book stores. Many will bring in books from more distant locations with no charge. I got the S. King book in hardback excellent condition for less than the price of the paperback!!

“Bird by Bird” by Anne Lamott, insightful and moving while remaining focused on improving your craft (fiction). It’s timeless.

I ordered Goodman’s “My So-Called Freelance Life” (no need to wait for Santa!)and I’m loving it. The book is humorous and full of useful information and inspiration. Thanks for the tip! It was only about $10 on Amazon.
