Lean Times In the Freelance World?

Hello fellow freelancers. I'm writing from a coffee shop in my home town, as I couldn't get from client #1 to home in time to meet client #2 on Skype. I didn't expect to work from a coffee shop, but I also didn't expect to be juggling these two projects in the same week.
I'd been working on a blog post in my head about the "lean times"--lack of meaty postings on job boards and lack of responses to queries. But then, these happened, along with some incredible job postings at places like About Freelance Writing (100 in one day!). So that blog post is no more, but I am wondering what you think. I recall a slow down in work last year around the holidays. How have you been doing?

My business is picking up. In fact, I haven’t had a spare moment to pursue my personal goals, but the clients pay the bills much faster than the submission process does. =c) At this point, I don’t need to hunt for another gig until mid-January, and at the rate they’re finding me I won’t be surprised if I go longer than that. I’m very blessed!
I’m fortunate to have things picking up quite a bit recently. In fact, I had to turn down a set of short articles because I didn’t have time to get them done when the client needs them.
It was the first time I’ve had to do that–it was weird, but a good feeling to know that I’m that busy!
I’m based in Ireland doing editorial and translation work, and I will continue to be busy through Christmas and beyond, as will the other freelancers on my books.
I hesitate to make any grand pronouncements – but so far, so good freelancing in a recession. Making hay . . . while the rain pours??
