Ok, I Just Can't Keep This a Secret Any Longer!

Tuesday April 22, 2008

I'm starting to feel a wee bit selfish. Here I am, running through the final proofread of the regional magazine that I edit, completely smug about what a gorgeous issue it's going to be- flawless, full of great articles, no typos, no mistakes- and I realized I just cannot wait to tell you about this tool!

ReadPlease is a lifesaver. I am full of typos. I know it. Some of you know it. I am constantly juggling, I have two loud children and many excuses. But this program saves me. It reads your work aloud while you follow along. Goodbye, typos- it really works!

I will be writing a full review ASAP, but until then, please do give the free trial version a try.

Interesting concept. I didn’t know that this tool existed. I often read my copy aloud to myself to proof it.

Thanks for this info. I’ll check it out soon. May I ask which regional you edit? I write for Ft Wayne (IN) Monthly and Indianapolis Monthly. I’d be interested in pitching you a story, depending on what it is. Thanks!

Haven’t tried it yet but is this going to put proofreaders out of business?

@Laura, yes but your brain probably works so fast that you naturally compensate and fill in words that MAY be missing.

Kayleen, I work for a bilingual publication out of Lansing, Michigan called Adelante Forward. We target Latino readers throughout middle MI.

Ivana, I don’t think it will at all. here’s why:
- First, it cannot tell you the difference between ‘through’ and ‘threw’ etc etc (which is why you read along with it)
-Also, read-aloud software has been around for ages I believe. I’m excited about this one because it’s free and so easy to use. It’s not a brand new software program that you have to teach yourself. Simply download it and start right away- easy.

If you have a full version of PDF, you can do the same thing.
Print to a PDF and there is a “read” function

Glad to see you advertise it again. I am still using it without upgrading. I love it.
